IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING YOUR PORTABLE DEEP CLEANER.
When using an electrical appliance, or home appliance, basic precautions should be observed, including the following:

  • Use only BISSELL cleaning products intended for use in this machine to prevent internal component damage. See the Cleaning fluid section of this guide.
  • Connect to a properly grounded outlet only. See grounding instructions. Do not modify the 3-prong grounded plug.
  • Do not leave the appliance when it is plugged in. Unplug from the outlet when not in use and before servicing.
  • Do not expose to rain. Store indoors.
  • Do not allow it to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
  • Do not use it for any purpose other than described in this User’s Guide. Use only the manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
  • Do not use a damaged cord or plug. If the appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, have it repaired at an authorized service center.
  • Do not pull or carry by cord, use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord, or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run the Home appliance over the cord. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
  • Do not unplug by pulling on the cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
  • Do not handle plugs or Home appliances with wet hands.
  • Do not put any objects into openings. Do not use any opening blocked; keep openings free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow.
  • Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts.
  • Turn off all controls before plugging or unplugging the appliance.
  • Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
  • Do not use them to pick up flammable or combustible materials (lighter fluid, gasoline, kerosene, etc.) or use them in areas where they may be present.
  • Do not use the appliance in an enclosed space filled with vapors given off by oil base paint, paint thinner, some moth-proofing substances, flammable dust, or other explosive or toxic vapors.
  • Do not use it to pick up toxic material (chlorine bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner, etc.).
  • Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
  • Keep the appliance on a level surface.
  • Do not carry the appliance while in use.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE USE
This model is for household use only. Commercial use of this unit voids the manufacturer’s warranty.

WARNING
Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electrical shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if you aren’t sure if the outlet is properly grounded. DO NOT MODIFY THE PLUG. If it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

This appliance is designed for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit and has a grounding attachment plug that looks like the plug in the illustration. Make certain that the appliance is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No plug adapter should be used with this appliance.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

Bissell 1400B Little Green Multi-Purpose Portable Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner FIG-1

This appliance must be connected to a grounded wiring system. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a safe path of least resistance to electrical current, reducing the risk of electrical shock. The cord for this appliance has an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. It must only be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded by all local codes and ordinances.

Cleaning fluid

Keep plenty of genuine BISSELL Cleaning Solution on hand so you can clean whenever it fits your schedule. Always use genuine BISSELL deep cleaning formulas. Non-BISSELL cleaning solutions may harm the machine and will void the warranty.

WARNING

  • To reduce the risk of fire and electric shock due to internal component damage, use only BISSELL cleaning fluids intended for use with the deep cleaner.
  • Use only BISSELL portable machine formula (with Boost if desired) in your cleaner. The use of cleaning formulas that contain lemon or pine oil may damage this appliance and void the warranty. Chemical spot cleaners or solvent-based soil removers also should not be used. These products may react with the plastic materials used in your cleaner, causing cracking or pitting.

Assembly

Assembling your Little Green is a simple process. The only thing you will need to assemble your cleaner is a Phillips-head screwdriver.

WARNING
Do not plug in your portable deep cleaner until you are familiar with all instructions and operating procedures.

  3. Insert the screw and tighten it with a screwdriver.
  4. Wrap the flex hose around the unit and place the hose grip into the bracket. Turn the bracket latch clockwise to lock it in place.

Operations

Getting ready

Bissell 1400B Little Green Multi-Purpose Portable Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner FIG-5

  1. To fill the clean water/solution tank.
    • a. Remove the tank by lifting it straight up and then away from the unit.
    • b. Unscrew the black cap at the bottom of the clean/solution tank.
    • c. Follow the fill lines on your clean tank to add the correct amount of hot tap water (140°F/60°C MAX), portable machine formula, and 1oz of BISSELL Boost if preferred. DO NOT BOIL OR MICROWAVE WATER.
    • d. Replace the clean/solution tank by lining up the vertical guides on the left side of the unit with the indentations on the clean/solution tank and gently sliding it down into position.

WARNING
Keep the spray away from the face. Failure to do so may result in personal injury.

Pre-treating

Cleaning effectiveness will be enhanced if you pre-treat heavily stained or highly-soiled areas. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Hold the cleaning tool just above the surface of the carpet or upholstery to be cleaned. Press the trigger to release a spray of cleaning solution directly onto the soiled area.
  2. Wait 3-5 minutes before cleaning.

Cleaning with the Tough Stain Tool

  1. Attach the 3” Tough Stain Tool to the handheld cleaning hose.
  2. Plug in the unit and press the power button beneath the handle to turn it on.
  3. Hold the tool 1 inch above the soiled surface.
  4. Press the spray trigger to mist the solution over and onto the soiled area.
  5. Release the spray trigger and gently scrub the stain.
  6. To lift the stain away, apply downward pressure on the tool and slowly pull it toward you. Watch as powerful suction removes the dirt and cleaning solution. Continue until no more dirt can be removed.
  7. As a final step, use “drying strokes” (by not pressing the spray trigger) to remove as much moisture as possible. Repeat this step as often as necessary.

NOTE: When using the BISSELL Oxy Boost formula, cleaning continues for 6-8 hours after application.

IMPORTANT
Check the manufacturer’s tag before cleaning the upholstery. “W” or “WS” on the tag means you can use your Little Green. If the tag is coded with an “S” (with diagonal strike-through), or says “Dry Clean Only,” do not proceed. If the manufacturer’s tag is missing or not coded, check with your furniture dealer.

Cleaning with the Deep Stain Tool

Bissell 1400B Little Green Multi-Purpose Portable Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner FIG-6

  1. Attach the Deep Stain Tool to the handheld cleaning hose.
  2. Plug in the unit and press the power button beneath the handle to turn it on.
  3. Set the tool directly on top of the carpet before pulling the spray trigger to inject the formula deep into your carpet fibers. Always keep the Deep Stain Tool in direct contact with carpeting to avoid over spraying.
  4. Release the spray trigger and gently scrub the stain.
  5. To lift the stain away, apply downward pressure on the tool and slowly pull it toward you. Watch as powerful suction removes the dirt and cleaning solution. Continue until no more dirt can be removed.
  6. As a final step, use “drying strokes” (by not pressing the spray trigger) to remove as much moisture as possible. Repeat this step as often as necessary.

NOTE: When using the BISSELL Oxy Boost formula, cleaning continues for 6-8 hours after application.

Tips

  • Deep cleaning stairs and high-traffic areas regularly help prolong carpet life.
  • Check upholstery stuffing before cleaning. Colored stuffing may bleed through the fabric when it becomes wet.
  • If a significant amount of water and solution remains in the clean tank, your unit can be stored with liquid in the clean tank.

Maintenance & Care

After Cleaning

  1. Turn the power switch to the OFF position.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
  3. Empty and rinse the dirty/collection tank after each use, OR when dirty water reaches the indicated maximum fill line. To remove the tank, lift the dirty/collection tank retainer lever and remove the tank from the unit. Bissell 1400B Little Green Multi-Purpose Portable Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner FIG-7
  4. Disconnect the cleaning tool from the spray trigger by pushing down on the button lock and pulling it straight off (DO NOT twist tools to remove them).
  5. Once removed from the spray trigger, all tools can be cleaned by rinsing under clean running water.
  6. Check the spray nozzle for accumulated dirt or debris. If necessary, clean with a soft bristle brush.
  7. To flush the tools and hose before storage, suction up a bowl of clean water to ensure all debris is removed.

WARNING
To reduce the risk of electric shock, turn the power switch off and disconnect the plug from the electrical outlet before performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks.

Machine storage

  1. Wipe all surfaces with a soft cloth.
  2. Wrap the power cord around the cord wrap on the back of the Little Green.
  3. Wrap the flex hose around the base of the unit and secure the spray trigger.
  4. Store the unit in a protected, dry area, at room temperature (40º to 110ºF).
