About Xiaomi

Important safety information

Read all the safety information below before using your device.

  • Using unauthorized cables, power adapters, or batteries can cause fire, explosion, or pose other risks.
  • Use only authorized accessories which are compatible with your device.
  • Use this device within the temperature range of 0°C ~ 40°C, and store this device and
    its accessories within the temperature range of -20°C ~ 45°C. Using this device in the environments outside of this temperature range may damage the device.
  • If your device is provided with a built-in battery, don’t attempt to replace the battery yourself to avoid damaging the battery or the device. Batteries should only be replaced by an authorized service centre.
  • Charge this device only with the included or authorized cable and power adapter. Using other adapters may cause fire, electric shock, and damage the device and the adapter.
  • After charging is complete, disconnect the adapter from both the device and the power outlet. Do not charge the device longer than 12 hours.
  • Do not attempt to modify the plug or power cord on your own, and please disconnect the power supply before cleaning the charger.
  • Do not throw away the device or old batteries into regular trash. If not handled properly, batteries may explode or catch fire. Follow your local regulations when disposing of the device, batteries, and other accessories.
    • Do not disassemble, hit, crush, or burn the battery. In case of deformation, stop using the battery immediately.
    • Do not short circuit the battery to avoid overheating, burns, or other personal injuries.
    • Do not place the battery in the high-temperature environments. Overheating may cause explosion.

  • To prevent voiding the warranty, do not disassemble or modify the device and its accessories. If any part of the device does not work properly, contact Mi customer support or bring your device to an authorized repair center.
  • To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods.
  • Before cleaning and maintaining the device, close all apps and disconnect the device from all other devices/cables.
  • Please use a dry, clean soft cloth to wipe the device and its accessories. Do not use harsh chemicals or detergents to clean the device or its accessories.
  • Do not use external heating equipment such as a microwave or hair dryer to dry the device and its accessories.

Child Safety

Keep the device and all accessories away from children. Do not allow children to play with, chew, or swallow the device or any of its accessories to avoid the risk of choking or suffocation.

Making Emergency Calls

Due to service network variations and other regional differences, the device may not be able to make calls in all areas and under all conditions. Please do not rely solely on the device to make important or emergency calls. Making calls isn’t supported on Mi Pad.

Safety precautions

  • Observe any laws and rules which restrict using mobile phones in specific cases and environments.
  • Do not use your phone in petrol stations and explosive atmospheres and potentially explosive environments include fuelling areas, below decks on boats, fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities, areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust, or metal powders. Obey all posted signs to turn off wireless devices such as your phone or other radio equipment. Turn off your mobile phone or wireless device when in a blasting area or in areas posted turn off “two-way radios” or “electronic devices” to avoid interfering with blasting operations.
  • Do not use your phone in the hospital operating rooms, emergency rooms, or intensive care units. Comply with the current rules and regulations of hospitals and health centers. Please consult your doctor and the device manufacturer to determine if operation of your phone may interfere with the operation of your medical device. To avoid potential interference with the pacemaker, keep a minimum separation of 15 cm between the mobile phone and the pacemaker. To achieve this use the phone on the opposite ear to your pacemaker and do not carry it in a breast pocket. Do not use your phone near hearing aids, cochlear implants, etc. to avoid interference with medical equipment.
  • Respect aircraft safety regulations and turn off your device on board the aircraft when required.
  • When driving a vehicle, use your device in accordance with the relevant traffic laws and regulations.
  • To avoid lightning strike, do not use your device outdoors during thunderstorms.
  • Do not use your device to make calls while it is charging. Making calls isn’t supported on Mi Pad.
  • Do not use your devices in places with high humidity such as bathrooms. Doing so may result in electric shock, injury, fire, and charger damage.
  • Observe any rules which restrict using mobile devices in specific cases and environments.
  • When using the flash, do not bring the light too close to the eyes of people or animals to prevent vision impairment.
  • If the device’s working temperature gets too hot, do not keep it in direct contact with your skin for an extended period of time to prevent low temperature burns.
  • If the display is cracked, please be careful of sharp edges or fragments which may cause injury. If the device is broken into pieces after colliding with a hard object or experiencing excessive force, do not touch or attempt to remove the broken parts. Stop using the product and contact Xiaomi’s After-Sales Service immediately.

Security notice

Update your device’s operating system using the built-in software update feature, or visit our authorized service outlets. Updating software through other means may damage the device or result in data loss, security issues, and other risks.

Reading mode

  • This feature is available only on compatible Mi Phones.
  • Reading mode automatically decreases the level of blue light emitted from the screen to make viewing more comfortable for your eyes.
  • Switching to Reading mode:
    • There are two ways to turn Reading mode on and off:
      • Swipe down from the top of the Home screen to show the Notification shade toggles, then tap the Reading mode toggle.
      • Go to Settings > Display > Reading mode. On the same screen, you can schedule to turn Reading mode on and off automatically and adjust color temperature.
    • Useful tips:
      • 20-20-20 rule: It is recommended to take a look at something located 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.
      • Blinking: To relieve eye dryness, try to close your eyes for 2 seconds, then open them and blink rapidly for 5 seconds.
      • Refocusing: It is a good exercise for your eye muscles to look away from your screen to the farthest place that you can see, followed by focusing on the thumb put 30 cm away in front of your eyes for a few seconds.
      • Eye rolling: Roll your eyes clockwise a few times, then take a break and roll them in an anti-clockwise direction.
      • Palming: Rub your palms together to generate heat before gently pressing them against your eyes for a few seconds.
