WARNING: Risk to Children and Impaired Persons
- Supervision is required during the installation, operation, cleaning, and maintenance of this product by children 12 years of age or younger and anyone with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance, its parts, and packaging material.
Directions to reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, and injury:
- Read all instructions before use.
- Use caution when handling this steam unit. Burns could occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use special care to avoid contact with hot water when turning the product upside down to empty the reservoir.
- To reduce the risk of contact with hot water, test whether steam is ready before each use while carefully holding the product away from your body. If no steam appears, wait a few more minutes and test again. Do not look into the appliance, use your hands or other objects to check for steam.
- Do not attempt to use the steam function without filling Water Tank. Do not overfill the water tank.
- Do not leave the appliance unattended while connected.
- To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the appliance in water or other liquids.
- Always disconnect appliances from electrical outlets when filling with water or emptying, and when not in use.
- Never yank the cord to disconnect from the outlet. Instead, grasp just the plug and pull to disconnect.
- Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord, or if the appliance has been dropped or damaged. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble or attempt to repair the appliance. All repairs must be performed by a qualified service professional. Incorrect reassembly or repair could cause a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury when the appliance is used.
- A loose fit between the wall outlet (receptacle) and the plug may cause overheating and distortion of the plug. Discontinue use of the product in this outlet. Contact a qualified electrician to replace loose or worn outlets.
- This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way.
- Before plugging the power cord into an electrical outlet, be sure that all electrical information on the rating label agrees with your power supply.
- To reduce the likelihood of circuit overload, DO NOT operate another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit.
- If an extension cord is necessary, use a properly rated cord (15 amperes, 14 gauge). Use care to position the extension cord where it is least likely to be damaged or tripped over during use.
- Do not allow the power cord to touch hot surfaces during use. Loosely bundle cord when storing.
- Always allow the unit to cool (30 minutes for complete cooling) and empty Water Tank before storing. Do not store the unit with a damp microfiber pad still attached.
NOTE: This product may continue to produce steam for a few seconds after the unit has been turned off. - Use caution when using the unit on uneven surfaces, such as stairs.
- When steaming any surface for the first time, it is recommended that you consult the manufacturer’s guidelines for the material being steamed. For items in question, test on an inconspicuous area before proceeding.
- Steaming unsealed hardwood or unglazed ceramic surfaces is not recommended and may result in warping or damage to the surface. Steam may remove the sheen from surfaces treated with wax.
- When steam mopping, never leave the unit resting in one spot on any surface for any period of time – prolonged exposure to heat and moisture may damage floor surfaces.
- When filling, only water should be used in the unit – other cleaning agents could damage the unit or cause injury. Distilled or de-mineralized water is highly recommended, in order to minimize potential build-up of mineral deposits. Do not fill with more than 8.45 oz (250 ml) of water. Do not attempt to use the unit without properly filling the unit.
- Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Do not touch Main Nozzle or Steam Mop or attempt to connect accessories while the unit is in use. Do not touch removable accessories or attempt to change accessories while unit is in use. Use caution when you turn the unit upside-down – there may be hot water.
- Only plug power cord directly into the 120V outlet.
WARNING: Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.

EXTENSION POLE
- Select the Extension Wand. Insert end (A) of the Extension Pole onto Main Body (B) with an orange Accessory Release Button slightly off center with a hole. Fully insert and rotate the wand slightly to allow the button to snap into the hole.
NOTE: To ensure the pieces are properly locked, all sides of the Accessory Release Button should be raised against the Extension Pole surface, they should not sit flush with each other. - Connect the bottom side of the Extension Pole (the side that is not interlocked to the Steam Nozzle) to the Mop Head attachment. Interlock the Accessory Release Button on the Extension Pole with the triangle-shaped cutout on the Mop Head.
NOTE: To ensure the pieces are properly locked, all sides of the Accessory Release Button piece should be raised against the surface. - Lay one Microfiber Pad on a flat surface, with “v-shaped” fastener strips facing upward. Align Mop Head above Microfiber Pad and press Mop Head firmly down onto Microfiber Pad. Fastener strips will adhere to pad grips on the underside of the Mop Head. Pad should now be attached and ready for use.
- Refer to “How to Use” on page 12 for instructions on how to use the Steam Mop function of your SI-160 2-in-1 Steam Mop
- To use the Carpet Glider, first, attach Microfiber Pad following the steps listed above. Then, lay Carpet Glider on a flat surface, with clasps facing up. Align Mop Head above Carpet Glider and press Mop Head onto Carpet Glider until it clicks securely into place.
NOTE: Microfiber Pads are machine washable. To avoid picking up lint, washing separately from other fabrics is recommended. Only use liquid detergent. Avoid using any fabric softeners or bleach. Air drying is recommended; machine drying on a low setting is acceptable as well.
STEAM CLEANER SETUP
To use your SI-160 2-in-1 Steam Mop as the handheld steam cleaner, follow the setup instructions below:
- Attach the Jet Nozzle to the Steam Nozzle by interlocking the Accessory Release Button on the Steam Nozzle with the triangle-shaped cutout on the Jet Nozzle.
NOTE: To ensure the pieces are properly locked, all sides of the Accessory Release Button should be raised against the surface. - To use the Utility Brushes and Brass Brush, follow Step 1 and then attach your desired brush to the Jet Nozzle.
CAUTION: Always allow the unit to cool before connecting/disconnecting any accessories.
WARNING: HOT SURFACE- Main Body Surface (see Illustration B on page 9) can become hot when the unit runs out of water.
FILLING WATER TANK
- Release the Water Tank from the Main Body (if needed) by pressing the Water Tank Release Button and pulling Water Tank away from the Main Body.
- Locate the rubber Water Tank Cap and lift up to expose the Water Tank Fill Hole.
- Fill the Water Tank with room temperature water, up to 8.45 ounces (250ml), and replace the Water Tank Cap securely so it sits flush.
- Insert the Water Tank inside the cavity of the Main Body by aligning the Water Tank Release Button with the groove in the cavity and snap into place.
- NOTE: In order to significantly reduce the mineral build-up and prolong the life of your 2-in- 1 Steam Mop, the use of distilled or demineralized water in the unit is highly recommended. Refer to Page 15 for more information about mineral build-up.
NOTE: The tube that transfers water from the Water Tank to the reservoir is weighted down with a copper ball. This is an intentional design to improve the efficiency of water usage. It is normal for this ball to create a rattling sound inside the Water Tank during use. If you think the brass ball has come loose from the tube, refer to Troubleshooting on Page 16.
HOW TO USE
GENERAL OPERATION
NOTE: Be sure that Water Tank has been filled and that all desired accessories are connected before following these steps.
- For first-time use, remove the protective plastic cover from the electrical plug. Plug the power cord into a 120V electrical outlet.
- Once plugged in, the Steam Indicator Light will flash orange for approximately 25 seconds to indicate the unit has begun to heat the water.
- To release Steam, push and release the Steam Trigger. If steam has stopped being produced, simply push the Steam Trigger again to release steam.
- Direct the Steam Nozzle (and any connected accessories) toward the surface you wish to steam, and press Steam Trigger.
- To release a more powerful stream of steam, slide the Steam Adjustment Switch up towards the Steam Nozzle.
STEAM MOPPING
NOTE: It is recommended to sweep or vacuum floors before mopping.
- Make sure the Extension Pole, Mop Head and a Microfiber Pad are all properly connected. Refer to Pages 9&10 for details.
- Follow General Operating Instructions above to begin steaming.
- Mop using a steady back-and-forth motion over the floor, working your way backwards in order to avoid walking over the freshly mopped area.
NOTE: To avoid warping or damage caused by heat and moisture, do not use on unsealed hardwood or unglazed ceramic surfaces. Care should also be taken when steaming sealed hardwood floors, as prolonged exposure to steam in a single spot may cause damage and discoloration. To avoid this, keep the 2-in-1 Steam Mop in constant motion on these surfaces. Steam may remove the sheen from some floors that have been treated with wax.
Surfaces that are not properly sealed may be warped or damaged by exposure to heat and moisture. Before steaming any flooring, it is recommended to consult the manufacturer’s guidelines. For the flooring in question, always test on a small inconspicuous area before proceeding.
The Microfiber Pad will absorb moisture during mopping. However, depending on the floor surface and steam intensity setting, some residual moisture may be left behind. In this case, it is recommended to allow floor time to air-dry. A fan may be directed towards the mopped area to facilitate drying.
STEAM CLEANING
CAUTION: When steaming any surface for the first time, it is recommended that you test on a small inconspicuous area before proceeding. Do not use on leather, wax, polished furniture and floors, or other delicate, steam-sensitive surfaces.
- Make sure desired cleaning accessories are properly connected. Refer to Page 9&10 for details.
- For general cleaning convenience, Extension Pole should be removed so that the unit functions as a handheld steam cleaner.
- Follow General Operating Instructions on Page 12 to begin steaming.
- Direct Jet Nozzle toward the surface you wish to steam. Use a slight back-and-forth motion over the area to enhance the cleaning process. To sanitize surfaces, hold Jet Nozzle approximately 1/2 inch from the surface for at least 5 seconds. This will most effectively kill germs and bacteria.
- Wipe steamed areas with a clean cloth to remove loosened dirt and grime. Wiping the area while it is still wet is recommended, but use caution when wiping surfaces such as metal that may still be hot.
GENERAL STEAMING TIPS
- Many surfaces only require to be sprayed with the Jet Nozzle to clean and disinfect them, then wiped with a clean dry cloth, towel, or paper towel. EX: kitchen counters, microwaves, stove tops, bathroom sinks, kitchen and bath fixtures
- The nylon Utility Brushes can be used on most surfaces for hard-to-remove dirt, grime spots, or stains. EX: baked-on food on ovens and oven doors, baked-on stove top spills, bath and/or kitchen grease and grime, the rubber seal on the refrigerator, under/around bath and kitchen fixtures, bath tile seams, grouting
NOTE: Use careful judgment when deciding what surface to clean with the Utility Brush. Some delicate surfaces may be scratched or damaged by the bristles. If you are unsure whether or not a surface will be damaged, it is recommended that you test a small inconspicuous spot before proceeding.
CAUTION: Only water should be used in the unit, other chemicals or cleaning agents may cause internal damage.
- Older, dried stains on carpet or hard floor surfaces may require a bit of extra scrubbing with the Utility Brush and/or a product designed for stain removal. It is helpful on the carpet to blot with a clean dry towel to help remove the spot/stain.
- The brass Utility Brush is useful for heavy-duty jobs and durable surfaces such as BBQ grills, oven racks, etc. DO NOT use this Brush on anything that the hard bristles might scratch or damage.
- The Extension Pole should be attached for mopping floors but is also useful for reaching overhead or otherwise hard-to-reach places. When raising the unit to reach high places, it is best to grasp Pole with both hands for better support. This should help to get you started with your new 2-in-1 Steam Mop. As you use your steamer, you will find what works best for you and your cleaning projects. Should you have any questions on how to best utilize your new steamer?

STORAGE & CARE
PROPER STORAGE
Preparing your 2-In-1 Steam Mop for storage is quick and simple. When you have finished your steaming tasks, follow the steps listed below.
- Unplug the power cord.
- Allow the unit to completely cool (at least 30 minutes).
- Remove all accessories from the unit.
- Remove the Water Tank and drain any remaining water into a sink or tub to minimize potential mineral build-up. Replace the Water Tank when done.
- Store the unit in a cool, dry location, along with all included accessories.
MICROFIBER PAD CARE: Machine wash warm, separately. Air or tumble dry low. No fabric softener or bleach.
MINERAL BUILD-UP
A common maintenance need for steam appliances is the removal of build-up caused by high mineral content in many municipal water supplies. This mineral build-up may limit the effectiveness and reduce the life of your product. The best way to minimize mineral build-up is to use distilled or de-mineralized water when using your 2-In-1 Steam Mop. If you are unable to use distilled water, it is recommended that the following procedure be followed monthly to remove any mineral build-up:
- Follow Steps 1-4 under the Proper Storage section above. However, do not replace Water Tank at the end of Step 4.
- Fill a measuring cup (not included) with 2oz (59ml) distilled water and .5oz (04.7ml) vinegar.
- Slowly pour water-vinegar solution into Water Tank then replace Fill Cap.
- Plug in the power cord to turn the unit on.
- Let steam release from the unit for 1 minute then turn the unit off by unplugging it.
- Allow the unit to sit for approximately 30 minutes, then let steam release until the Water Tank has been emptied.
- Once Water Tank is drained, turn the unit off and refill Water Tank with 8.45 ounces (250ml) of fresh distilled water. Allow the unit to produce steam until Water Tank is empty. Repeat as necessary until the vinegar odor dissipates.
- Turn the unit off by unplugging the power cord and store it as usual.
IMPORTANT: On average, it is recommended that you follow the mineral build-up removal procedure once per month (if the unit is used once every week). More frequent use may require following the procedure more often in order to keep your 2-in-1 Steam Mop operating at full potential. Do not exceed 20 hours of use without cleaning out mineral build-up.

FAQS About Sharper Image SI-160 2-in-1 Steam Mop
What are the drawbacks of a steam cleaner?
However, because they lack suction power, steam mops are useless for cleaning up major spills; instead, you should use a regular mop and bucket or a wet and dry vacuum.
When do you use a steam cleaner?
every week
What is the lifespan of a steam mop?
Some of our clients have steam cleaners that have lasted for 5-8 years and are still in good condition. You should definitely anticipate 3-6 years of steady use from less expensive products like steam mops or handhelds.
When is it inappropriate to use a steam mop?
Even if the paint layer is sealed, steam cleaning over painted surfaces still poses a risk. The paint may develop bubbles due to the heat from the steam, which could eventually peel. Whenever possible, stay away from steam-washing painted floor surfaces.
Are steam mops secure on every surface?
You must use caution even with non-wood flooring. Using a steam mop on laminate, which is constructed of fiberboard, is best avoided, according to Stocki, as the heat could harm the plastic surface.
Need chemicals for steam mops?
Steam mops are mainly made to only be used with water, with the exception of a few versions that have dual purposes. The floor can be thoroughly cleaned with just steam. Always carefully study the instructions that come with your particular mop model.
How long does it take to prepare a steam mop?
Attach the mop pad to the mophead first, then use the filling flask to add water to the reservoir. It takes the steam mop around 20 seconds to start building up when it is plugged in before you hear the mop hiss. I discovered that in order to prime the steam pump during the first use, I had to repeatedly pump the handle.
Do steam mops require soap?
They do deep cleaning, however, they are often made to be used without detergents because the steam’s temperature should destroy bacteria.
Are stains removed by steam mops?
With the aid of washable, reusable microfiber pads, steam mops transform ordinary water into hot steam to dissolve filth, remove difficult, dried-on stains, and zap everyday dust and debris, so there is nothing to throw or dispose of.
