IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, important safeguards should always be followed, including the following:

  • Read all instructions.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • The appliance is intended to prepare beverages according to these instructions.
  • This appliance should only be used for the intended purpose.
  • This appliance is only meant for indoor use, under non-extreme temperature conditions.
  • The appliance must not be used, cleaned, or maintained by children under 8 years of age unless supervised, instructed by an adult on how to use the appliance safely, and fully informed regarding the dangers involved.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used near children.
  • Keep appliance/power cord/capsule holder out of reach of children.
  • Children should not use the appliance.
  • This appliance may be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or whose experience knowledge is not sufficient, provided they are supervised or have received instruction to use the device safely and understand the dangers.
  • Any servicing other than cleaning and user maintenance should be performed by an authorized service representative.

Avoid the risk of fatal electrical shock and fire to protect against fire, electric shock, and injury to person

  • If the supply cord or the plug is damaged, they must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons.
  • If the cord or the plug is damaged, do not operate the appliance. Only return the appliance to the Nespresso Club or a Nespresso authorized representative.
  • To disconnect, turn the machine “OFF”, then remove the plug from the outlet.
  • To avoid hazardous damage, never place the appliance on or beside hot surfaces such as radiators, stoves, ovens, gas burners, open flames, or similar.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • Disconnect from the outlet before cleaning. Allow to cool before adding or removing parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  • Never immerse the cord, plug, appliance, or any part of it in water or any other liquid.
  • Electricity and water together are dangerous and can lead to fatal electric shocks.
  • Do not put anything else than specified capsules into any openings, doing so may cause fire or electric shock!
  • The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock, or injury.

Avoid possible harm when operating the appliance

  • Risk of scalding by hot liquids. If the machine is forced open hot liquids and coffee grounds may splash. Always lock the system completely and never open it during operation.
  • Be careful, capsule is hot. Risk of scalding. If a capsule is blocked in the capsule compartment, turn the machine off and unplug it before any operation. Call the Nespresso Club or Nespresso authorized representative for assistance.

  • Disconnect the appliance from the power outlet when not in use for a long period.
  • Disconnect by pulling out the plug; do not pull on the cord itself to avoid damage.
  • Never touch the cord with wet hands.
  • Never put the appliance or part of it in a dishwasher.
  • Do not open the appliance. Hazardous voltage inside!
  • Do not dismantle the appliance.

  • Never leave the appliance unattended during operation.
  • Do not use the appliance if it is damaged or not operating perfectly. Immediately remove the plug from the power outlet.

  • A damaged appliance can cause electric shocks, burns, and fire.
  • Do not put your fingers under the coffee outlet; risk of scalding.
  • Do not insert fingers into the capsule compartment when the machine head is closing; risk of injury.

  • Water could flow around a capsule when not perforated by the blades and damage the appliance.
  • Be careful not to injure yourself on sharp points or trap your fingers when reaching inside the machine.
  • Beware of hot liquids when reaching inside the machine.
  • Never use a damaged or deformed capsule.
  • Always fill the water tank with fresh potable water.
  • Do not overfill the water tank.
  • Empty water tank if the appliance will not be used for an extended time (holidays, etc.).
  • Replace water in the water tank when the appliance is not operated during a weekend or a similar period.
  • Do not use the appliance without a cup placed at the suitable cup support level and ensure the cup support is in place after any usage, to avoid spilling any liquid on surrounding surfaces. Do not use any strong cleaning agent or solvent cleaner.
  • Use a damp cloth and mild cleaning agent to clean the surface of the appliance.
  • Do not use a steam or pressure cleaner to clean the appliance. This will damage the appliance and may create a life-threatening hazard.
  • Do not pour water or other liquids into the brewing unit.
  • Keep appliances, capsules, and accessories out of reach of children.
  • This appliance is designed for Nespresso Vertuo coffee capsules available exclusively through the Nespresso Club or your Nespresso authorized representative.
  • All Nespresso appliances pass stringent controls.
  • Reliability tests under practical conditions are randomly performed on selected units. Some units can therefore show traces of previous use.
  • Nespresso reserves the right to change instructions without prior notice.

Short cord instructions

  • Use the power cord supplied with the device in an unmodified form. It is important for user safety that the appliance is only used with a suitably grounded electrical supply.
  • A short power supply cord or detachable power supply cord is to be provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
  • Extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
  • If a long detachable power cord or extension cord is used:
  • The marked electrical rating of the detachable power cord or extension should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance.
  • The appliance is grounded and only a grounded extension cord should be used (type 3-wire  cord)
  • The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not dangle over the countertop or tabletop, where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
  • The appliance has a grounded plug (two blades and one round pin).
  • To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a grounded outlet only one way.
  • If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug.
  • If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician.
  • Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
  • This appliance is only meant for indoor use, under non-extreme temperature conditions.

Descaling

  • Nespresso descaling agent, when used correctly, helps to ensure the proper functioning of your machine over its lifetime and that your coffee experience is as perfect as on the first day. For instructions on how to descale, consult the section “Descaling” in this user manual.

FIRST USE OR AFTER A LONG PERIOD OF NON-USE

  1. Rinse and clean the water tank before filling it only with fresh potable water. Put the water tank in place.Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso Machine 3

  4. Turn the machine “ON” by pushing the button. The button will gradually illuminate as the machine heats up in approximately 15 seconds.Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso Machine 6

  6. Place a container of at least 12.5 fl oz. /0.4 l under coffee outlet.Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso Machine 8
  7. Close the head and lock the machine by turning the lever left to the lock symbol on the machine head.Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso Machine 9
  8. Press the button 3 times within 2 seconds to start cleaning and let the cleaning procedure complete automatically. It will take less than 2 minutes before a flow comes out. The procedure consists of 3 cycles of pumping water in/internal cleaning/water flowing from the outlet to complete.Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso Machine 10
  9. This operation may take up to 5 minutes. The procedure can be stopped at any time by pushing the button. The button will go to steady light. In case you want to resume the cleaning process, push the button again. CAUTION:

EMPTYING THE SYSTEM

  1. Empty the water tank and put it in place.
  2. Place a container under the coffee outlet and lock the machine.
  3. Unplug the power cord.
  4. Open the machine head and let the used capsule be ejected.
  5. Reclose the head and turn the lever left until the “LOCKED” position.
  6. Push and hold the button while replugging the power cord and then release the button.
  7. The machine turns “OFF” automatically when the machine is empty.

LIMITED WARRANTY

Nespresso warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship for 1 year. The warranty period begins on the date of purchase and Nespresso requires the presentation of the original proof of purchase to ascertain the date. During the warranty period, Nespresso will either repair or replace, at its discretion, any defective product at no charge to the owner.

Replacement products or repaired parts will be warranted only for the unexpired portion of the original warranty or six months, whichever is greater. This limited warranty does not apply to any defect resulting from negligence, accident, misuse, or any other reason beyond Nespresso’s reasonable control, including but not limited to normal wear and tear, negligence or failure to follow the product instructions, improper or inadequate maintenance, calcium deposits; connection to improper power supply; unauthorized product modification or repair; use for commercial purposes, fire, lightning, flood or other external causes. This warranty is valid only in the country of purchase or other countries where Nespresso sells or services the same model with identical technical specifications.
