Definition

The ripple voltage of the outputs shall be measured at the pins of the output connector when terminated in the load impedance specified in Figure 1. Ripple and noise are measured at the connectors with a 0.1uF ceramic capacitor and a 10uF electrolytic capacitor to simulate system loading. Ripple shall be measured under any condition of line voltage, output load, line frequency, or operation temperature.

Ripple voltage test circuit

Silverstone Strider Gold S Series ST78F 850W PSU (1)

Overshoot

Any overshoot at turn on or turn off shall be less than 10% of the nominal voltage value, all outputs shall be within the regulation limit of section 2.0 before issuing the power good signal of section 5.0.

Efficiency

Power supply efficiency typically 87% for 750W 850W normal voltage at full load on all outputs.

Remote ON/OFF control

When the logic level “PS-ON” is low, the DC outputs are to be enabled. When the logic level is high or open collector, the DC outputs are to be disabled.

PROTECTION

Over current protection

The power supply shall have a current limit to prevent the +3.3V,+5V, and +12V1,+12V2 outputs from exceeding the values shown in the following Table. If the current limits are exceeded the power supply shall shut down and latch off.

SST-ST75F-GS

Voltage Over Current Limit (Iout limit)
+12V 65A minimum; 95A maximum
+5V 28A minimum; 45A maximum
+3.3V 24A minimum; 40A maximum

SST-ST85F-GS

Voltage Over Current Limit (Iout limit)
+12V 72A minimum;   105A maximum
+5V 28A minimum;     45A maximum
+3.3V 24A minimum;     40A maximum

Over-Temperature Protection The power supply will be protected against over-temperature conditions caused by loss of fan cooling or excessive ambient temperature. In an OTP condition, the PSU will shut down. When the power supply temperature drops to within specific limits, the power supply shall restore power automatically. The OTP circuit must have built-in hysteresis such that the power supply will not oscillate on and off due to temperature recovery conditions.

Over-power protection The power supply will be shut down and latch off when the output power is within 110~180% of rated DC output.
Note: The assurance machine can work at low voltage, a full load won’t damage the machine.

Under voltage protection In an under-voltage fault occurs, the supply will latch all DC outputs into a shutdown state when +12V,+5V & +3.3V outputs are under 85% of their maximum value.

Overvoltage protection The over-voltage sense circuitry and reference shall reside in packages that are separate and distinct from the regulator control circuity and reference. No single point fault shall be able to cause a sustained over-voltage condition on any or all outputs. The supply shall provide latch mode over voltage protection as defined in Table.

output Minimum Nominal Maximum Unit
+12 VDC 13 15 17 Volts
+5 VDC 5.5 6 7 Volts
+3.3 VDC 3.6 4 5 Volts

Short circuit

An output short circuit is defined as any output impedance of less than 0.1 ohms. The power supply shall shut down and latch off for shorting the +3.3 VDC,+5 VDC, or+12 VDC rails to return or any other rail. Shorts between the main output rails and +5VSB shall not cause any damage to the power supply. The power supply shall either shut down and latch off or fold back for shorting the negative rails.+5VSB must be capable of being shorted indefinitely, but when the short is removed, the power supply shall recover automatically or by cycling PS_ON#. The power supply shall be capable of withstanding a continuous short-circuit to the output without damage or overstress to the unit.

No load operation

No damage or hazardous condition should occur with all the DC output connectors disconnected from the load. The power supply may latch into the shutdown state.

TIMING

The signal timing drawing is a reference for signal timing for main power connector signals and rails.

Silverstone Strider Gold S Series ST78F 850W PSU (2)

PS-OK Timing Sequence

  • T3: Power good signal turn-on delay time (100ms~500ms)
  • T4: Power good signal turn off delay time (1ms min)
  • T2: Rise time (0.1~70ms)
  • T6: Hold up time

Hold up time

When the power loses its input power, it shall maintain 17ms in regulation limit at normal input voltage. ( Tested at 75% of maximum load and 100-240VAC input ).

FAQs Silverstone Strider Gold S Series ST78F 850W PSU

How excellent is Silverstone Strider?

In summary, the Silverstone Strider Platinum 650W power supply performs well and lives up to its claims. It oscillates at a low voltage and has a high efficiency. Additionally, even when the power supply is strained, the 120mm fan in use is silent.

Is SilverStone a trustworthy PSU?

Excellent PSUs are made by SilverStone. For the past ten years, I’ve utilized SilverStone Tek PSUs. One was installed in an Alienware box starting around 2005, and I purchased a second one in 2011 since I thought a PSU that had lasted in a powerful gaming PC for around 6 years was plenty for me.

How dependable are SilverStone power supplies?

Since SilverStone like high-power-density PSUs, it’s not surprising that they went with a small platform. The CSZ platform from CWT may be little, but it offers great performance and is extremely dependable.

Who makes SilverStone power supply products?

Most of their products are produced by Sirtec, FSP, or Enhance. Silverstone is a respectable brand all around.

How good is SilverStone Decathlon?

Although the price is a little more than that of comparable PSUs made by lesser-known firms, Silverstone offers value for the money. From top to bottom, the Decathlon DA750 is a PSU of the highest caliber.

What makes SFX and SFX L different from one another?

An SFX-L PSU, the bigger version of the SFX, typically measures 125 x 125 x 63.5mm.

Why is Decathlon less expensive?

An increasing number of Passion Brands, each as distinctive as the sports they are focused on, make up Decathlon. We can pool R&D resources and innovations by bringing our brand’s in-house and having our Passion Brands operate as a single business. Lower pricing results from increased efficiency.

Why is Silverstone its name?

‘Farm/settlement of Saewulf/Sigewulf’ is likely what the village’s name denotes.

Why is Silverstone such a challenge?

Silverstone presents more than only incredibly quick and energetic corners like the Maggotts and Becketts complex. The harshest compound is needed for the British circuit, one of the toughest on the calendar. Drivers must concentrate on the tires’ thermal control.

Is the downforce at Silverstone high or low?

In this high-speed, high-downforce thrill-fest, something always seems to go wrong, and usually one of the Red Bulls is involved.
