- Ready to cook Light
HOW TO USE YOUR OSTER® 4 SLICE WAFFLE MAKER
Preparing Your 4-Slice Waffle Maker
- Remove all packing materials before using.
- Before use, wash the waffle cooking plates with warm soapy water, and dry them completely. Be sure to read the Care and Cleaning section of this manual to learn the correct methods for cleaning the unit.CAUTION: Do not immerse WAFFLE MAKER in water or other liquid.
- Close the waffle maker and plug it into the wall outlet. You will notice that the red power light will turn on. The green ready light will not turn on yet. It will remain off until the desired temperature is reached. It will take approximately 5 to 8 minutes to reach baking temperature. When the green-ready light goes on, the waffle maker is ready for use.
Baking
- When the green “Ready” indicator light goes ON, the unit has reached the correct baking temperature and is ready for use.
- Pour batter onto the bottom grid of the waffle maker. Ladle just enough batter to fill each plate in the lower grid so that the peak area of the grid is covered, being careful not to overfill. If necessary, use a spatula to spread the batter into the corners of the grid.
- Lower the top part without closing the latch. This will allow more room for the waffles to expand.
Note: During cooking, the ready light may cycle ON and OFF as the unit maintains the correct baking temperature. The cooking time is about 3 to 5 minutes and varies depending on the type of batter being used and the desired cooking consistency of the waffle. The unit may start to emit steam during cooking. Once the unit stops emitting any steam, this may be an indicator that the waffles are done. - Once cooking is complete, remove the waffles with a spatula or utensil, being careful not to touch the housing as it will be hot. Note: Avoid the use of metallic or sharp-edged utensils because they could damage the coating on the plates.
- If you wish to make more waffles, close the lid and wait for the ready light to turn “ON” before cooking a new batch.
- After use, unplug the appliance and allow it to cool.
Waffle Baking Tips
- At first, try baking for about 3 minutes then check if it is done to your liking. You may need to close the top housing and bake longer if it is not to your desired outcome. A shorter baking time produces lighter-colored waffles, while waffles baked for longer times are darker and crisper. Different waffle batters will also cook up differently. Over time, you will find your perfect baking time for the batter you use.
- When preparing waffle batter, do not over or the waffles will be tough. Stir batter only until large lumps of dry ingredients disappear.
- The optimal amount of batter to produce a full-shaped waffle, without overflowing, will vary with different waffle batters. Pouring batter from a measuring cup will help you gauge how much batter to use each time. Fill the bottom grid of the waffle maker with enough batter to cover the peak areas of the grid.
- For more evenly shaped waffles, spread thick batters to the outer edge of the grid, using a heat-proof spatula or other non-metallic utensil before closing the lid.
- Cake-based waffles, such as the Chocolate Waffles are more tender than regular waffles and may require more care when removed from the waffle maker. You may want to break these waffles into halves or quarters before removing them. Use a spatula to support waffles when removing from the waffle maker.
- To retain crispness, move baked waffles to a wire cooling rack to prevent steam from accumulating underneath.
- When serving several waffles at one time, keep waffles hot and crisp by placing them on a rack in a preheated 200°F oven until ready to serve.
- Already cooled waffles can be re-warmed and re-crisped, individually, by returning them to the hot waffle maker. Place waffle on grid so grooves match up; close lid and heat for 1 to 2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
- Baked waffles freeze well. Cool completely on a wire rack. Store in a plastic freezer bag or a covered container, separating waffles with wax paper. Reheat frozen waffles in a toaster oven, oven, or toaster until hot and crisp.
CARE & CLEANING
Your Oil Infused DuraCeramic™ Waffle Maker should be cleaned after every use.
- Unplug the Waffle Maker and allow it to cool before cleaning.NOTE: To protect the Oil Infused DuraCeramic™ coating, do not run cold water over the cooking surface immediately after use.
- Wipe down the cooking surface with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. DO NOT use steel wool or other metal pads as this may scratch the surface.
3 The waffle maker is NOT dishwasher safe. You may wash it with hot soapy water, rinse, and dry thoroughly.
